Wi-fi might minutes early and have proved a luxury that many can not choose to be without.
Most wi-fi products now come ready to use, just outside the box. For novice computer users, this is a big advantage, simply plug your equipment and return ready to go. But easy to set up broadband often means that security issues are not considered.
An unsecured network means that you are at risk from others on your network. This can cause or someone close to using the Internet for free, or even worse they can get information from wi-fi signal and possibly obtain valuable, personal data.
Steps Secure Your Network
Admin Password Change Your Wireless Router
Producers ship their wireless broadband router to access confidential initial standard. Once you have wi-fi and running, the first thing you should do is change your password. To do this, you will need to log into the router. Your ISP should provide instructions on how to do this.
Turn off SSID Broadcasting
Your wireless LAN will always broadcast your network name, or SSID (Service Set Identifier). This makes it much easier when connecting to your LAN, because you do not t have to know the name of your network, but also makes you visible to anyone on the network within range of your network. If you turn off SSID broadcasting, this will make you visible to your neighbors and anyone else who might happen by.
Change WEP for WPA
WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) has set the security to encrypt data transmitted diseases in the wireless Internet. The problem is that the sa weak WEP security form that uses size 60 or 108 bits key is shared among all network devices to encrypt wireless data. Hacker is to break the WEP key Bale with the help of software easily available on the web.
WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) is an improvement over WEP as a strong protection to provide the data using 128-bit encryption keys and dynamic session keys that help ensure the privacy and security forces.
Install a Firewall
A firewall acts as a barrier from the outside world that either block or allow information to pass through your computer.
This only takes a little time and little knowledge to ensure that your secure wireless broadband.
